Capshaw was five years old when she moved to St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Hazelwood Senior High School. Capshaw graduated from the University of Missouri with a qualification as an educator. Additionally, she was a part of Alpha Delta Pi. She was a special education instructor at Southern Boone High School Ashland, Missouri and Rock Bridge High School Columbia, Missouri.
